What is reinforced concrete?

Reinforced concrete is concrete containing steel in a variety of forms (wires, bars, welded mesh, etc.) to strengthen it. The steel reinforcement is placed inside the form before the concrete is poured. The steel adds tensile strength to complement the concrete's compressive strength.
