Vicat's Q-Flash concrete used for runway at Sabiha Gökçen International Airport

temp

January 2018

The runway at Sabiha Gökçen International Airport in Turkey was repaired with Vicat's Q-Flash concrete in just six months. Work was carried out quickly and efficiently at night so as not to disturb air traffic. A tried and tested concrete mix design that met the challenge.

Carried out in 5-hour stints, the repair work at Sabiha Gökçen International Airport —Istanbul's second-largest— repaved up to 100 m² of runway per night. The rehabilitation work was carried out at night so as not to disturb flights.

The work was carried out from March to August 2019, using Vicat's Q-Flash fast-setting concrete. Our technology was the only solution meeting the specifications of the job. The fast strength gain (2 hours after pouring) of the special binders used—PromptUP natural quick-setting cement and AlpenatUP—gives the concrete exceptional mechanical properties. Another advantage is that the lifetime of a concrete runway is twice as long as that of an asphalt runway.

"The success of this project is partly due to the quality of the blending of our cements by the Saint Égrève plant. The combination of PromptUP and AlpenatUP exhibits unequalled performance." Pascal, PromptUP export manager
